In August, 2021, the Italian Anti-Corruption Authority (ANAC) and the SCPC signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the direction to improve disclosure channels and protection mechanisms for whistleblowers by strengthening the legislative framework and institutional arrangements; strengthening the capacity of civil society to support whistleblowers through public policy advocacy, public education, legal aid and other support for whistleblowers and strengthening public awareness, especially among young people, of the importance of whistleblowing in the fight against corruption and educating the public about mechanisms for whistleblower protection. The cooperation of these two institutions is guided by the fact and mutual understanding that corruption destroys economic and social structures and impairs the well-being of peoples and nations throughout the world, aware that the prevention and fight against international corruption can be improved by cooperation between institutions in accordance with the laws and regulations of countries and at the same time recognizing the importance of international cooperation and the need to implement legally binding international instruments to fight corruption, especially the UN Convention against Corruption and its review mechanisms.
During 2022, the SCPC deepened its cooperation with ANAC through the Network of Corruption Prevention Authorities – NCPA, in which both institutions are members. Namely, through joint cooperation, it contributed to the development of documents for the development of national anti-corruption strategies and policies, with an emphasis on prioritizing the challenges that countries may face, that is, anti-corruption institutions that face the implementation of such type of strategic documents.
